As singer Pink prepares to release her Greatest Hits album, she's promoting her two new singles -- both of which celebrate the beauty of being different and not-so-perfect. The newest song, released on Pink's website on Thursday, is called "F---in' Perfect." It's a hip-hop guitar ballad that tells her fans to love themselves the way they are. Here's a sample lyric:
You're so mean when you talk about yourself
You were wrong
Change the voices in your head, make them like you instead...
Pretty pretty please
Don't you ever ever feel
Like you're less than f---in' perfect
The song is super-motivational without being cheesy -- it's like a pep talk for your iPod. And it comes right on the heels of her other new single, the uptempo "Raise Your Glass," which encourages people to celebrate their differences (the chorus begins: Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways). The video for that one has just been released; it's slightly not-safe-for-work, but you can watch it here.
These two songs perfectly capture the thing we love about Pink. Don't get us wrong -- we love a good Katy Perry or Rihanna song as much as the next girl. But sometimes, it seems like every girl on MTV is doing the same thing: wearing a miniskirt and singing about some guy. And while Pink has plenty of eye-popping costumes and sappy love songs, she has just as many hits that encourage women to express themselves. It's refreshing to hear a female star brag about being smart ("Stupid Girls") or find strength in her anger ("So What"). We'd even go so far as to call it empowering. So you can bet we'll be first in line for that Greatest Hits... So Far!! album. If you want to get in line behind us, it hits stores and iTunes on November 16th.
