There's been talk for months that America's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan would take over for Larry King when he steps down this December after 25 years with CNN. Now, it's official: Morgan is the man for the job!
Rumors swirled that Joy Behar was also on the short list to replace King, but it seems like Morgan, 45, won the battle. CNN stated Morgan "will host a candid, in-depth newsmaker interview program" starting in January 2011. The show will air weeknights at 9 p.m.
The New York Times reports that Morgan called taking over for the 76-year-old host of Larry King Live, "the greatest interview job in the world." But, don't fret America's Got Talent fans, Morgan is continuing with the show, as well as his British program Life Stories, which airs on ITV.
A few weeks ago we here at iVillage pondered if Morgan should be the man for the job -- will he be too cranky or will he bring a fresh, new flavor to the news network? It seems CNN/U.S. president Jonathan Klein thinks the latter. "We are delighted that he will now bring his dynamic, probing interview style to American television and to CNN viewers around the globe," he wrote an internal company memo.
Now that we have all this squared away can we please get an official word on who the next Simon Cowell is?!
